FAMILY APARTMENT BUILDING

BLACK & WHITE

CONCEPT

Polykatoikia.
The Greek apartment building known as the polykatoikia was born on the 1930s. The design of the family project focused on reforming the typology of the greek “poly-katoikia” and its main characteristics: the repetition -copy paste- of the structural canopy, the homogeneity of the main structural partitions or even materials, the handling of the structure as a big, one volume.

The proposed building is made of 3 discrete entities able to form a unity. The volume of the main vertical circulation in exposed concrete. The dark, black skin folding around the balconies of the main elevations. The pure white extended balcony of the 3rd floor. Each entity is attached to one another, in a functional dialogue creating spaces but foremost living shades.

The footprint of the building is of 120 m2. It has a basement, a pilotis were the main entrance lobby, parking space and a garden are developed, 2 typical floor apartments, and at the 3rd and 4th floor a maisonette with an external patio offering a beautiful view of the city center of Athens as well as of Immitos mountain.
